'International Seminar on Climate Smart Farming System' inaugurated

Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Director General (ICAR) and Secretary (Department of Agricultural Research and Education) today at BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) at the National Center for Agricultural Sciences, New Delhi. In his inaugural address, Dr. Mahapatra emphasized that despite climate change, farmers' income can be effectively increased by adopting technological interventions. He said that small tillage farming is a challenge when applying agricultural mechanization technology as a component of climate friendly agriculture. He stressed that India is committed to defining emission reduction targets, developing technologies and implementing them at the grassroots level to adapt to situations that are fast emerging and challenging production systems Huh. The Director General said that India is also committed to strengthening relations between the BIMSTEC countries.
Mr. Han Thein Kyaw, Director, BIMSTEC Secretariat, Myanmar urged farmers to adopt modern technologies in farming and agriculture as per the changing climatic scenario in the world. This will help in maintaining the nutritional quality of crops and food products.
Shri Virender Paul, Joint Secretary, BIMSTEC, SAARC and Nalanda, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, considered rapid regional connectivity and trade as key keys to the success of BIMSTEC countries. Mr. Paul considered agriculture to be one of the most important factors for the economic development of a country.
Shri Sushil Kumar, Additional Secretary (Department of Agricultural Research and Education) and Secretary (ICAR) along with other senior officers of ICAR and DARE were also present.
Dr. A. Arunachalam, Additional Director General, (International Relations), ICAR earlier in his welcome address highlighted the main objectives of the seminar.

Participants of all the BIMSTEC countries - Bhutan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand - are participating in this international seminar.
The 'International Symposium on Climate Smart Farming System for BIMSTEC Countries' has been organized as an initiative of the Government of India, as announced by Hon'ble Prime Minister of India at the 4th BIMSTEC Summit held in Kathmandu on 30-31 August 2019. Had.
The main objective of the international symposium is to promote experience sharing to enable improvement of tropical smallholder agricultural systems for greater productivity and resilience with climate change through ecological approaches.
